Let me walk you through the process step by step.

Firstly we need to determine the climate zone we live in, if we are going to grow tomatoes outdoors

Tomatoes are grown as a summer crop in warm and cool temperature zones; they can be grown year-round in sub-tropical/tropical zones. However, to reduce the risk of pest/disease, the best time to grow them in tropical zones is in autumn and winter.

You can grow them indoors all year round. You do need to make sure you choose the right tomatoes, often the smaller varieties are best like a cherry or a mini dwarf.

With a little tender care and the right conditions plenty of direct sunlight 6-8 hours each day you will be able to produce a bountiful crop.Whether you grow tomatoes outdoors or indoors the ideal temperature for growth is between 21-27°C (70-82°F) during the day and at night 16-18°C (62-64°F)

Lets Learn how to Grow Tomatoes from Seed!

Secondly, do you want to grow the plants from seed or purchase seedlings from the nursery .

Now, if you’re a newbie in the gardening world, don’t fret. Growing tomatoes from seed is easier than you might think.

First things first, you’ll need to get your hands on some seeds. Make sure you choose a variety that suits your taste buds. Do you like sweet cherry or big beefsteak ones? The choice is yours!

Now, it’s time to germinate those seeds. Find a small container or a seed tray and fill it with some seed starting mix.

Moisten the mix with water until it’s nice and damp. Then, sprinkle your tomato seeds on top, making sure to give them some space to grow.

Cover the seeds lightly with more moistened mix and place a plastic bag or some cling wrap on top to create a mini greenhouse.

Creating the Perfect Environment

Next, we need to create the perfect environment for those little seeds to sprout. Find a warm and sunny spot for your seed tray, like a windowsill or a greenhouse.

Make sure to keep the soil moist, but not soaking wet. In about a week or so, you should start to see little tomato seedlings popping up! Once your seedlings have grown a bit and have developed their first true leaves, it’s time to transplant them into bigger pots.Once your seedlings reach about 3inch it is time to plant them in either larger pots or in a garden bed

If you are going to grow in large containers, we recommend grow bags. You will need to fill them with potting soil, making sure they have good drainage.

Gently loosen the soil around each seedling and carefully transfer them into their new homes one seedling per grow bag, alternatively if you are going to grow tomatoes in a garden bed make sure you have plenty of soil in the garden bedand they are spaced 18-24inch apart.

Make sure to provide your tomatoes with plenty of sunlight, at least six hours a day. Water them regularly, keeping the soil evenly moist. Your tomatoes will need feeding every few weeks you can either use a slow release fertiliser of a liquid fertiliser like Organic Kelp Fertilizer

As they grow taller, you will need to remove any side shoots and support the tomatoes with some bamboo sticks or tomato cages to give them support, make sure to gently secure the tomato plants to the bamboo sticks or tomato cage with twineTo keep your tomatoes pest free we like to use an Organic Spray or a Neem Oil Spray to keep those bugs away !

When they’re nice and ripe, give them a gentle squeeze to check if they’re ready to be picked usually around the 10-12 week mark.
